Fabio Ribeiro

Executive Director

Executive Director and Founder of CVC. Fabio grew up on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where playing beach volleyball is a popular sport and pastime. As a sports enthusiast he enjoyed surfing, swimming and volleyball daily at the beach and playing on numerous basketball teams. He left Brazil to pursue a collegiate basketball scholarship at the University of Hawaii. This propelled him to a career playing professionally in Europe for ten years. After retiring, Fabio spent the next ten years utilizing his international experience and multi linguistic skills to work for Dell Computers Inc. Throughout his corporate career, he found himself spending his free time involved with athletics, creating successful all girls’ camps in Hawaii and Texas, and coaching indoor and beach volleyball.

He is currently developing Carioca Volleyball Club in the Bay Area, promoting beach volleyball events, coaching with the USAV High Performance Teams, and is the assistant coach for USA Volleyball Beach 17U Boys team.

Fabio is also serving as Beach Assistant Coach at St. Mary’s College and helped guide the Gaels to their best finish in the West Coast Conference (2nd).

Marco Albuquerque

Technical Director

Marco grew up in Rio playing volleyball for Flamengo F.R. and became a coach there after his playing career was over.

As a coach, Marco has a tremendous experience, first with indoor teams and then moving to the sand. He coached various professional beach volleyball players in Rio and the Greek National Team. Many of his players are fixtures in the CBV Brazilian National Tour as well as the FIVB. He then turned his attention and passion into coaching youth volleyball, joining the Brazilian Junior National Team for several years.

He has guided several U19 and U21 teams into the World University Games, South American Championships, European Championships and FIVB Word Championships. He has won a World University title as well as multiple FIVB World Championship titles for Brazil.

Marco currently coaches several international professional players in the sands of Copacabana beach. Some take advantage of his coaching year round, while others attend his training and clinics seasonally. For Carioca VC, Marco is responsible for developing the practice curriculum and overall technical strategy and principles. Marco lives in Rio with his wife and children and comes to the Bay Area periodically.

Jose Loiola

Guest Coach

Legendary Hall of Fame, Olympian and World Champion from Brazil. As a player, Loiola was a fan favorite and highflying offensive powerhouse with over 55 professional career wins. Jose brings his experience and passion to coaching now as an USA Beach National Team Head Coach. In addition, he has coached several clubs, camps and professional teams. Jose currently works with Carioca Volleyball Club to offer Elite Collegiate Summer Training in Hermosa Beach, CA.

Ricardo "Rico" Guimaraes

Rico is in his second season as a collegiate assistant coach and his first at FIU. He graduated from the University of Hawaii, where he starred for the Rainbow Warriors. After a few years playing professionally in Europe and on the AVP Beach Tour, he embarked in a coaching career for several pro teams until moving into coaching. Rico has an extensive coaching experience both indoor and on the beach side. He currently serves as the USA Boys National Team Head Coach in addition to his FIU duties.

Eduardo Bacil "Anjinho"

Anjinho grew up in Rio de Janeiro and playing indoor for Flamengo, where he won several junior titles and propelled him to the Brazilian Junior National Team and Brazilian Olympic Team as a setter. While enjoying great success as a setter, he also played on the Brazilian beach tour, winning several junior and adult titles until teaming up with Jose Loiola. Anjinho and Loiola together formed a very successful beach team, winning the Brazilian Tour, South American Tour and several FIVB tournaments. The AVP Tour decided to invite them to play in the US and they were the first foreign team to participate and win AVP Tour events.

Anjinho currently coaches with the USA High Performance National Teams, professional beach players and lives in El Segundo with his family.

Meagan Schmitt

Guest Coach

Meagan Schmitt is in her third season as head coach of Cal Berkeley’s beach volleyball program. Schmitt, a Cal alum who was a defensive specialist and team captain for the Bears in 2010, she helped Cal make its only two Final Four appearances in school history in 2007 and 2010. Immediately after graduating, she became an assistant coach for Loyola Marymount’s indoor team prior to joining the beach program. With the beach team, she helped lead the Lions to a No. 8 final ranking in 2014 and helped produce two AVCA San All-Americans. Meagan has had experience coaching various beach clubs and the USA Volleyball High Performance program.

Owen Monroy

Monroy served as an Assistant Coach during the 2017 season for the Cal Bears after coaching indoor at the University of Illinois, Saint Mary’s, Penn State, and Westminster College. During that time Owen made trips to the NCAA round of 16 and a national semifinal while working under mentors including Rob Browning, Russ Rose, Kevin Hambly, and Mike Dodd. While at Saint Mary’s, Monroy helped develop the newly formed beach program, which was ranked in the top-10 nationally during both years he was on staff. Owen’s experience includes time at the club level and with USA Volleyball programs both indoors and on the beach.

Kent Perkins

Kent has been coaching youth sports at almost all levels for 35 years. Coaching history includes 4 years Club Volleyball in El Cajon Ca, coaching U13 and U12 travel teams including winning the U13 boy’s National title in 1982. Kent was the middle school coach for Foothill middle school in Walnut Creek for 5 years and saw the program grow into a district 8A championship team in 2012. Kent coached men’s Varsity high school Volleyball in El Cajon and Saratoga for 3 years and is currently the program director and head Varsity women’s coach at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill. Assistant to Pat Powers for Northern California clinics in Sacramento, Foster City, Danville and Fairfield for the last 5 years.

Kent holds certifications as a NGHS coach, Cap 2 and BCAP 2, GMS, Impact and Beach Impact Volleyball coach. Kent is a certified Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and holds an up to date Red Cross Advanced First Aid and CPR cards.
