Fabio grew up on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where playing beach volleyball is a popular sport and pastime. As a sports enthusiast he enjoyed surfing, swimming and volleyball daily at the beach and playing on numerous basketball teams. He left Brazil to pursue a collegiate basketball scholarship at the University of Hawaii. This propelled him to a career playing professionally in Europe for ten years. After retiring, Fabio spent the next fifteen years utilizing his international experience and multi linguistic skills to work for Dell, Tesla and other multinationals. Throughout his corporate career, he found himself spending his free time involved with athletics, creating successful all girls’ camps in Hawaii and Texas, and coaching indoor and beach volleyball.
He has developed the club, promoted several camps and started the Carioca Beach Volleyball Tour in the Bay Area. He has coached with the USAV High Performance Teams, and was the assistant coach for USA Volleyball Beach 17U Boys team with Rico Guimarães.
More recently, Fabio served as Beach Assistant Coach at St. Mary’s College and helped guide the Gaels to their best finish in the West Coast Conference (2nd).
Rico grew-up on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Even though Rico and Fabio are both “Cariocas” from Rio, they met when they attended the University of Hawaii, where Rico was a standout in volleyball and Fabio in basketball for the Rainbow Warriors. After graduating from Hawaii, Rico went on to play professionally in Europe, Brazil and the AVP.
Rico has spent more than 20 years coaching volleyball professionally. He has coached every level, from kids, to amateurs, to college and the pros. Presently he is on his 10th year as a Youth Beach Head Coach for Team USA. Internationally for Team USA, coach Rico has won Gold & Silver at the FIVB World Championships Under 17 Girls at Acapulco, Mexico in 2004 and again during the World University Games at Parnu, Estonia in 2016.
Rico has also been coaching in the collegiate level as the assistant coach for two different top 10 ranked Division 1 schools in the last 3 years, and has reached the “NCAA Final 8” two of out 3 years he has coached.
Rico is currently back in Hermosa Beach, California where he first started playing. He will be heading all the beach programs for CVC in Southern Cal and help promote the sport at the highest level.
